Senior Director of Research and Innovation, InterDigital
Doug Castor is Senior Director of Research and Innovation at InterDigital where he leads the development of emerging technologies for wireless systems. Since joining InterDigital in 2000, he has led teams in both product development and research innovations for 3G, 4G, 5G cellular and other wireless technologies. In recent years, Doug and his team have developed InterDigital’s EdgeLink™ 60GHz millimeter wave solution with mesh connectivity, published technology innovations for NR-Unlicensed, and delivered research platforms to industry partners in 3GPP and Mobile Edge Computing areas.
Doug is currently a member of Industrial Advisory Board at NYU Wireless in Brooklyn, NY. Past advisory board positions include the NSF Smart Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the Broadband Wireless Access Center at Notre Dame. Doug is responsible for numerous ongoing research collaborations with universities and research institutes worldwide, focusing on areas such as UAV (Drone) communications, Mobile Edge Computing, 5G millimeter wave communications, low power communications, and Beyond 5G roadmap technologies. Doug’s deep experience in wireless communications includes the areas of 3GPP, WiFi, WiGig and satellite communications.
Prior to joining InterDigital, Doug held Communication Engineer positions at General Electric, Lockheed Martin, and General Atronics. He holds numerous issued patents and patent applications. In 2006, he was awarded the Delaware Valley Young Engineer of the Year award from the IEEE Philadelphia Section, and is currently a Senior Member of IEEE. Doug holds a BSEE from the Pennsylvania State University (1992) and MSEE degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1995).
